Two big levers: the boiler (its type, brand and output — a bigger home needs more output) and the installation (how much work it takes to fit). A premium brand with a long warranty costs more up front but can be worth it.
Boiler plus installation
A like-for-like combi swap in the same spot is the most affordable job. Changing boiler type, moving its location, or converting from a conventional system to a combi means more pipework and more labour — and a higher figure.
What can add to the cost
A new flue run, a system filter, upgraded controls or a smart thermostat, a power flush to clean the system, or bringing older pipework up to standard can all add to the total — but several of these protect the new boiler and its warranty.
