Boiler Warranties Explained — and How to Keep Yours Valid

A long warranty is a big selling point on a new boiler — but it comes with conditions, and it’s easy to invalidate one without realising. Here’s how they actually work.

At a glance

  • New boilers can come with up to a 10-year manufacturer warranty.
  • An annual service is almost always required to keep it valid.
  • Registering the boiler after installation matters.
  • Skipping services, or unregistered fitters, can void it.

What the warranty covers

A manufacturer warranty covers faults with the boiler itself for a set period — anywhere from 2 to 10+ years depending on the brand and whether it was fitted by an accredited installer. It doesn’t cover general wear items or problems caused by a dirty system.

Keeping it valid: the annual service

Nearly every warranty requires a documented annual service by a Gas Safe engineer. Miss one and the manufacturer can decline a claim — so the service isn’t just good practice, it’s what protects the cover.

Registration

The boiler must usually be registered with the manufacturer within a set window after installation. We handle registration as part of the job, so your warranty starts cleanly.

What voids a warranty

Common culprits: skipping the annual service, installation by a non-accredited fitter, or running the boiler on a dirty, un-flushed system. Keep the services up and the paperwork safe, and you’re covered.
